Barnet

Background

The spotlight has been on Barnet more than usual this season. Edgar Davids' arrival has drawn attention from the media, lets be honest nobody saw it coming. I'd like to know how Davids has got on at Barnet, has he still got it? Or has he lost it.

League Form

This season has not been easy for Barnet. The Bee's were at the very bottom of the league for ten consecutive weeks. This must have been a difficult period for everyone associated with the club.

However, not long after the departure  of Mark Robson, Barnet's form started to pic up. The month of February saw The Bee's lose only 1 of their 5 games during the month. A mini-revival for the club since David's was handed full responsibility of the team. Recently, Barnet were as high as 18th which suggested survival was more likely than relegation for The Bee's. Although, with 5 games to go Barnet are 21st and only 4 points clear from the drop zone, it could really go either way.

Transfer Market

There has been plenty of transfer activity at Underhill this season. Notable incomings and outgoings are listed below.

Notable Incomings

Craig Beattie           Unattached                     Free
Edgar Davids          Unattached                     Free
Collins John            Mes Sarcheshmeh           Free
Graham Stack         Hibernian                        Free
Curtis Weston         Gillingham                      Free
Jon Nurse               Dagenham & Redbridge  Free
Jake Hyde               Dundee                           Free

Notable Outgoings

Izale McLeod          Portsmouth                     Free
Dean Brill               Luton Town                   Free
Danny Senda          Released                         Free

Edgar Davids is obviously a signing that stands out. However, I think the best deal for Barnet was signing Jake Hyde on a free from Dundee, 11 league goals this season making him a real bargain. Another good signing is Jon Nurse from Dagenham, a good player who'll get you a couple of goals and not bad seen as he was also free.

Not too many significant departures for The Bee's, Izale McLeod is quite a good player so Barnet fans might have been disappointed by his departure.

Outlook

The outlook for Barnet currently is not too great. However, I believe they will stay up, I think Aldershot and York are going to down and consequently the Bee's will survive. They need to do some major rebuilding next season if they are to be safe next year. Edgar Davids leading the ship will only help Barnet attract new players. Developing players and bringing young english talent through the ranks might be a good strategy in the long term, combine that with some experienced signings and Barnet could do a lot better than pure survival. I'd like to see Barnet escape from their perennial league two relegation battles.
